  • How often should I water my new plants from a landscape installation?

It is advisable to water newly installed plants twice daily for the first 14 days. For perennials and shrubs, we suggest watering them for approximately 20 to 30 seconds each time. The ideal times for watering are early morning and late evening. During particularly dry seasons, feel free to increase the frequency of watering. Neglecting to water your plants on hot summer days can lead to heat stress, significantly increasing the risk of plant mortality.

  • How often should I water my newly installed trees?

Trees require significantly more water than shrubs to thrive. Newly planted trees should be watered for about 1 to 2 minutes twice daily. As previously noted, it's important to give extra care to your trees during dry spells.

  • How often should I water my lawn after a lawn renovation?

In the initial weeks after seeding, it's important to water your newly installed lawn 1 to 2 times daily. Ensure that the top layer of soil remains consistently moist. The best times to water your lawn are early morning or late evening. For larger yards, consider dividing the area into zones and watering each zone for about 20 to 30 minutes. Frequent watering will help your seeds germinate more quickly, resulting in a lush green yard! Until you see dense, green growth in the seeded area, make sure not to let your yard dry out.

  • What should I do to treat the moles in my yard?

The most effective methods for controlling moles are to either physically capture them using mole traps or to employ bait that attracts them. There are commercially available baits, typically in the form of worms, that have been shown to be effective.

  • What is the proper mow height for a healthy lawn?

To maintain a healthy lawn, the ideal mowing height for grass is between 3 to 3.5 inches in the spring and fall. In the summer, it's best to mow your grass to a height of 3.5 to 4 inches, as this allows the grass blades to provide shade to the soil. Additionally, follow the "one-third rule," which advises against cutting more than one-third of the grass blade length in a single mowing session.

  • What is the difference between landscaping and hardscaping?

Landscaping involves the arrangement of outdoor features, including plants, lawns, and other natural elements. Examples of landscaping include planting new flowers in a garden bed or sowing seeds for a new lawn. On the other hand, hardscaping pertains to the incorporation of solid materials, such as pavers or retaining wall blocks. Common examples of hardscaping include patios, walkways, retaining walls, and even swimming pools!

  • How can I prevent weeds in my landscape beds?

There are several effective strategies for preventing weeds. One option is to manually pull weeds from your beds, but this method can be labor-intensive and may inadvertently promote further weed growth. When weeds are pulled, their roots can break off, leaving parts of the root system intact underground, which can lead to larger and more aggressive weeds sprouting.

Another approach is to install weed prevention fabric in your beds, which stops weeds from growing through the material. Landscape fabric is particularly effective when placed before adding rocks or stones, as it significantly reduces weed growth.

Using herbicides is also an effective way to control weeds. Applying pre-emergent weed control in the spring can help prevent annual weeds from taking root. Additionally, spot-spraying with an herbicide that is approved for landscape use can help manage weeds during the growing season.

TD offers monthly property visits that utilize herbicide and weed removal techniques to help keep those troublesome weeds at bay!

  • How often should I mow my lawn?

We generally advise mowing your lawn once a week during the peak growing season. However, during drier weeks or months, it's essential to monitor your lawn and only mow when needed. As previously mentioned, be sure to adhere to the "one-third rule," which states that you should never cut more than one-third of the grass blade length in a single mowing session. This may mean you need to mow more frequently.

  • Why is fertilizing my lawn a good idea?

Fertilizer supplies the necessary nutrients for your lawn to thrive and remain healthy. Applying fertilizer encourages vibrant, green growth and enhances disease resistance. A properly fertilized lawn is also less susceptible to damage from pests and diseases.

By engaging a professional lawn care company, you enhance the aesthetic appeal of your outdoor space while enjoying the convenience of hassle-free service. Additionally, it has been proven to contribute to workplace wellness!

  • How often should I mulch my landscape beds?

To maintain a fresh appearance for your landscape, we suggest mulching your beds once a year. However, some clients choose to mulch more frequently to ensure their beds consistently look their finest!

  • When is the best time to prune my plants?

Effective pruning depends on the plant's growth and blooming schedule. Heavy pruning should take place during the plant's dormant season, usually in late winter or early spring, before new growth begins. Additionally, light pruning of your shrubs is recommended between late spring and early fall to maintain their shape.
